THE THOUSAND-YEAR LEGACY BEHIND THE NAME
"AL-GHALIYAH"
Al-Zamakhsharī the great polymath narrates in his book 'Rabīʿ al-Abrār wa Fususal-Akhbār'.
In the magnificent halls of the Royal Court of Mua'awiyah (RA), a remarkable moment was about to unfold.
Abdullāh bin Jaʿfar entered, holding a small glass bottle of perfume (qārūrah). The air was still, but as he carefully opened the bottle, an extraordinary fragrance began to fill the room. It was unlike anything anyone had ever experienced—rich, mysterious, and captivating.
Muʿāwiyah (RA) instantly knew it was extraordinary and asked, “How much did you spend on this?”
With a smile, Jaʿfar replied, “A hefty sum (māl)”
Muʿāwiyah (RA) nodded in appreciation and declared, “This is Ghāliyah”—precious, rare, and priceless.
